Gross, butt I have a question

Anal glands. Isis is scooting across the carpet and licking all the fur off her butt. It's anal glands that need attention, right? Does it hurt her when the vet expresses them? Isis is a terrible patient.

I just checked my spelling of express - and one of the definitions was:

A rapid, efficient system for the delivery of goods. Hee, Hee!

Jeannie

This evening was the first time I've been able to pet Jeannie since the pill incident on March 3rd. She was so busy eating with Bob, I was able to sneak in a couple of scritches.

Summer's V-E-T report

Summer received her report card from yesterday's V-E-T checkup. I still need to collect a urine sample, and if that is ok, then we need to do more blood work to check her thyroid. Something made her lose that weight.

Wordy Wednesday Challenge

We were invited by Zoolatry to join in the Wordy Wednesday Challenge. Romeo got the honor of representing us. We chose the word Goofy because he is sweet but not the smartest of the lot. He gets himself into such trouble bouncing after someone who DOES NOT WANT TO PLAY. He's a lovable goof.

Summer's Bi-Annual V-E-T visit

Just got back from the V-E-T's office. Summer's geriatric exam. She's lost a 1 1/2 pounds since last July. The old girl is showing her age. Everything checked out ok. We have to wait for the lab results..... hope they will be ok. She was a very good girl, no hissing or growling, just complaining on the way there.

A good friend told me about this kitty at the SPCA. She is friendly once she gets to know you. The info on her page is not all correct. If you or anyone you might know that would like a real sweet girl, let me know. I know she's just one in a million cats that need a home, but apparently she has made a big impression on the people at the SPCA.

Think I used "know" enough times? heh.

Jeannie watching TV

Jeannie is the first cat I've had to even acknowledge the TV. She seems fascinated by it, but sudden images or loud things spook her. I need to find one of those cat videos of birds or something for her. Something I've never looked for before, any suggestions where to buy one? And which ones are the best? Thanks.

Thanks for your suggestions

I appreciate your suggestions about giving a pill to Jeannie. Believe me all ideas are welcome. I was using a towel, it was her teeth that got me when I tried to push the pill in her mouth. She just clamped down on my finger and wouldn't let go. I've given hundreds of pills before and never had this much of a fight. I think she was just so totally freaked out by being held down, she went into such a fright/fight mode. I should have waited until she trusted me more. It was too soon to try it and I found that out the ouch way. She gives me the old stink eye every time she walks by now.

She's 2 months over due for her rabies vaccine, but I think it's safe to wait a while before I upset her by going to the vets. She doesn't go out, and she was inside the rescue shelter for a year. I've gone longer with my old girls because I was poor for a while so Jeannie can have a reprieve for now.

OUCH !!

I learned a lesson last night. Don't try to give Jeannie a pill. She was a wild thing. and I have 3 bites to prove it. The lady at the rescue gave me a worming pill for her that I thought I would wait to give until she was more comfortable here. She's a skinny little thing so I thought it might really be worms so last night I gave it a try. BIG mistake. She got me 3 times, once on my middle finger on my left hand and 2 times on my first finger on my right hand. The one that really hurts is where she got me next to my finger nail. I'd try for photos of my war injuries but my fingers don't work! It's hard to type using one finger on my left hand!! All I can say is OUCH. And I'm afraid I've scared her once again.....

Oh, and the pill is on the floor - not in Jeannie.

“I JUST WANTED TO PLAY”

Sophie's story

It all started with a normal trip to Petsmart. I try to hurry past the kitties up for adoption, but yesterday I peeked in. There was a beautiful long hair tuxie girl that was 6 1/2 yo. She was so sweet and loving. I stayed in there way too long. All the way home I thought about her. All night long I thought about her. I even gave her a name. Marlo. So I go back today to get her. I know, I need another cat like I need a mole with hair on my nose. BUT, she's gone!! I missed her by 45 minutes. Not meant to be. So I start scritching a pretty calico girl and one employee after another comes in and tells me her story. She's been in that cage 2 months, she's affectionate and a beauty. SOLD. Her name is Sophie, she's 1 yo and she's a leaner. She rubs and leans against my legs. She has beautiful gold eyes, but she manages to blink with the camera flash...

Jeannie's story

Jeannie joined our family on February 3, 2009. I was looking at all the kitties in our area that needed forever homes. Something about her sweet little face made me keep going back to look at her again and again. I still don't know why, but I sent off an email asking about her. I told myself if it was meant to be, then what's one more furkid? I received an answer to my email saying she was a feral kitty and had been asked about many times, but since she wasn't a lap cat, nobody wanted her. Well we've been down that road many times and I was able to adopt her. Jeannie had been living on a golf course and had at least 2 litters of babies. All her babies were caught and have forever homes. She is about 5 years old, and is a very tiny, delicate girl.

Babe's story

Babe is one of the feral cats my Mom caught. She was Mom's cat along with her other two. After Mom passed, I took care of all three of her cats. Her two original cats went to the rainbow bridge very shortly after Mom died. She had Babe for eight years and I've had her now for nine more years. Babe is my CRF girl. When she was first diagnosed with CRF I thought I'd only have her for a few more weeks, but she has surprised both me and the vet and is doing great with only sub-q fluids three times a week.

Romeo's story

I found Romeo online. I received an email from a friend about him. His Mom was in a nursing home and not coming back (she didn't know she was staying there forever). So her family was trying to find a home for Romeo. She had an attorney that was to find a good home for Romeo if anything ever happened to her. I had to actually apply to get him. References and essay about me. Once her family had me checked out I was able to pick him up at the attorneys office. I had only been told he was 5 years old and very fluffy. Turned out he's a pure himalayan. I don't think he had ever seen another cat until I brought him home. He's very friendly and is best friends with Bob and Jeannie.

Isis's story

Bob's story

Bob's adoption was totally a spur of the moment thing. I was in the dentist's office for a cleaning and I was telling my dental hygienist about adopting Isis and that I had never had an orange cat. Then she tells me her vets office has a little orange cat up for adoption. I went home and called to make sure the cat was still there, then grabbed a PTU and headed off to go get him. When I got there all I could see was a little bit of orange fur poking out from under his bed. Then we got him out of his cage and he was HUGE. Turned out he was 5 years old and his original family just didn't want him anymore. So off I went to fill out the paper work while the vet gave him one last check over. When we put him in the PTU he almost didn't fit. He is a wonderful boy but very scared all the time. He ducks his head every time I reach down to pet him, like he thinks I'm going to hit him. He doesn't know how to play with toys and once I got one of those toys with a fuzzy hanging from a stick and he was so afraid of the stick he ran and hid for hours. Now we only have the fuzzy part, the stick I trashed. Thank goodness he and Romeo are such good buds, it's the only time he really plays.
